It's Wednesday, my day off. Except I'm never OFF.
I finally realized this when I started trying to plan "getaway" back country skiing trips to remote areas of California that maybe, just maybe, might have cell service. The real jackpot would be a remote mountain top lodge, preferably a log cabin with a fireplace, with cell service AND....wireless Internet. I'm either really warped or a real entrepreneur. Or just a warped entrepreneur.
My friends don't get it. My family does. They joke about those of us whose heads are filled with wheels that spin too hard. I used to approach my father with a line that would send him running for cover. "Dad, I've been thinking." His standard response, "That's dangerous." My husband, approached with the same line: "That sounds expensive". The scary thing is, they're probably right.
Back on track. So I'm allegedly OFF but the wheels are spinning. Mostly, about What's Next. Not what's next in the next few minutes, or the next few days. My husband does all that. God love him, he's a walking Franklin Planner. Good news for people like me who keep losing their Franklin Planner.
My idea of What's Next is bigger. As in leveraging my skills to make a difference. That line of thinking, along with a little help from Seth Godin's blog and book titled The Dip has produced a clear vision.
Everything I do under the "umbrella" of Lauryn Taylor Fine Art is about making a positive difference in people's lives through Art. How? By staying focused, believing in this vision and keeping the eye on the prize. By:
- DARING (still love a good dare or even a double dare) to be the Strange Fish navigating unfamiliar waters by bringing an unconventional edgy, progressive, non-representational art gallery into a well established traditional (and dare I say sometimes "stuffy") art scene.
- LOVING the looks on our client's faces when they discover us and exclaim, "How refreshing!" Or, better yet, when they take home an amazing piece of art that speaks passionately to them as individuals, or as a couple, like only great art can do.
- BELIEVING in our artists who are out there in their studios, through thick and thin. Real people who open their vulnerable creative souls to share their passion with us. And, it's not an easy job. It is HARD to work alone in your studio, day after day. Knowing, that when you emerge from your studio and present your efforts, there will be critics. Huge kudos to all artists, in every profession - we believe in you because you believe in yourselves!
- OFFERING a complete program of Fine Art & Art Marketing Workshops to artists who want to jump start their creative juices and expand their skills.
- TEACHING with love and support, individuals who have overcome their fear of the unknown, to pick up a brush and learn how to paint. For the first time. Ever.
- COLLABORATING with my 4 year old son and husband to help them make their first encaustic HOT WAX painting last week (I got to do the blow torch part!)
THIS is my business, my career. This is my life.
And this is What's Next: A new LTFA email Newsletter launching on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. A MAJOR website revision with pages for all our new artists launching on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 (make sure you check back on Tuesday!). A new Gallery exhibit STICKS & STONES: Nature Abstracted opening Saturday June 30, 2007. Reception 6:00 - 8:00pm. LTFA booth at the very fun 2008 Sand City West End Celebration Saturday, August 11 12-6. Info on all of the above at lauryntaylor.com
And today, a new Blog to share these experiences with you as this Strange Fish continues to make a splash in Carmel by-the-Sea. And yes, I am a Pisces.
Thank you.I am a great walking planner!

WAY TO GO...I LOVE THE BLOG.
I was just checking in to see when to plan for my next Encaustic workshop and found you blogging. You are an inspiration and a wonderful support. The electrician just hooked me up. I now have 4 plugs outside my patio studio and I am in the process of making my first batch of medium...it's kinda scary...watching the thermometer and all. It is taking much longer than I anticipated. The sun just went down and I have to wait for 6 more pounds of wax to melt before I can pour it, then have to cut it up before it gets too hard. YIKES.
So glad I can to the beginning workshop. I know it will all be OK.
I will also look for 'The Dip' and let you know how it hits me.
In the mean time...I can't wait to get painting!
HAPPY SUMMER.
